Reed A. Omary, MD, MS, is Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, USA. He has 25 years of experience as a practicing interventional radiologist, NIH-funded scientist, and educator. Dr. Omary served as Vanderbilt’s Chair of Radiology from 2012 – 2023. During that time, he was Chair of the Board for the Vanderbilt Medical Group, founded Vanderbilt’s Medical Innovators Development Program, and co-led strategic planning for the Medical Center's 30,000 employees. He has served as President of the Association of Academic Radiology and President-elect of the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments.
Dr. Omary stepped down as Chair of Radiology to pursue a sabbatical in sustainable healthcare. He's an avid public speaker who promotes sustainability, strategy, and innovation in healthcare for international organizations and for the public. In 2023, he launched The Green Leap sustainable healthcare blog. Most recently, he founded and serves as CEO of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called Greenwell Project. Its mission is to design sustainable medicine together with patients.
